Are jar candles safe?

Yes. Our amber jar candles are made from thick, smooth glass specifically designed for candles, so they’re fully heat resistant. They won’t catch fire, leak or crack, but they can get hot, so you must be careful while handling after use. Jars contain the flame and the wax, so the open flame is kept away from flammable objects and you don’t have to worry about any wax residue spilling onto surfaces. Even so, you should always keep your candles at least 1 foot away from any curtains or other items that might catch fire.

How long do jar candles last?

Our jar candles come in different sizes, our small candles are 85g, lasting around 18hours. Our larger candles are 145g and can last up to 30 hours burn time.

What do I do with the jar when the candle is finished?

Our candle jars can be recycled, but they must be cleaned out properly using hot, soapy water before going into your recycling bin. You can also reuse them around the home, such as pen pots or small succulent holders. Removing the labels are also easy, apply hot water to them and peel them away with a little bit of elbow grease.

How to keep jar candles from tunnelling.

Tunnelling is when the candle burns in a small area around the wick, leaving a portion of the candle un-melted on the outer rim. The result is uneven burning and it will look as though the flame is burning a tunnel down the centre. As the tunnel gets deeper, the flame won’t be able to get enough oxygen to burn and it will cause the candle to extinguish – even though it is still surrounded by wax.

The best way to avoid tunnelling is to burn the candle for long enough to let the entire surface melt. The time this takes depends on the size of the candle, our smaller candles should get a melt pool around 1 hour and our larger ones around 2 hours.

If you do get tunnelling, there are a couple of methods you can use to salvage your candle. You can read about them in our guide on how to fix and prevent candle tunnelling.
